Rhyolite is a pink or gray rock made of quartz, plagioclase, and sanidine, with minor amounts of hornblende and biotite. It forms from granitic magma that has partially cooled in the subsurface and contains trapped gases that produce vugs with crystals, opal, or glassy material. It is often used for gemstones and tools.
